Shaun White Skteboarding Review

Shaun White Skateboarding is a game where New Harmony City, the city the game takes place in, is taken over by an anti-fun corporation named The Ministry. The game opens with a psycadelia-like scene, where Shaun White is using shaping, a concept we'll talk about later, and is grinding his way through the city, and changing the landscape by tricking and grinding. At one point, though, he loses his balance, and falls to the ground. After this, there is a first person scene where, you, a Ministry worker, is given White's board. Before you look at it, though, Shaun White claims it will set you free. Once you do, the character creator comes up and you do just that. After, you somehow communicate with an English Professor X. Then, in a cleched moment, there is a vent right in the room, and you jump through, and surf on a train. At that point, I thought there would be a train riding mini-game, but the camera just fell to the ground, your character rode off, and the toutorial begins. This is where they introduce Flow, the thing Shaun White used to contort the city. Flow can be used to "influence" people, because after the toutorial you go outside, and everything is gray and boring. Once you do your first trick, color springs into the world, but not the whole thing. This is the challenge in Shaun White Skateboarding. Besides saving White, and stopping the Ministry, you need to influence New Harmony and save its citizens. My time with Shaun White: Skateboarding was the most fun I've had in a video-game, so much so, I can't explain it. It is Skate 3 with juvenile mischief, with a Just Cause liberation-type feel, and it fits together with the best brand name a company can give a sports game that's this wacky and fun. I give this game a 200/10.

Thinking of Moving the Blog to Tumblr

I read up and found out that Google has some serious privacy issues when it comes to your information, including signing you up for services you don't want without your permission. Tumblr seems to be a nicer and much more reliable, private option because let's be frank, I'm not making this blog for people to read. It also has a much simpler option to let other people contribute, so with Josh's consent I will transfer this blog and all its posts to Tumblr.

I will probably post either more or less durring the school year. Also, since I started Gamefly again, I'll be able to review more games! See you next post.

No One NEEDS Product Placement

I just saw a trailer for Nicktoons MLB. Yes, that is the title. This is a Nicktoons baseball game, which pits Nick characters against ACTUAL MLB PLAYERS. I don't think this is a good idea. Just because it's a baseball game, doesn't mean it needs a brand name label.

A Review Longer Than Twelve Words: Thor

Thor is supposed to be one of the first misadventures for the Norse God, but it isn't the best at doing that. Most important Thor happenings are either skipped over or mixed around in this movie. In the comics, a scientist, I don't remember his name, found a cane and when hitting the ground it became Mjolnir, Thor's hammer. In the movie they just skip over that topic and use a fake I.D. with his name on it to free Thor one of the many times he's been captured by authorities. The story revolves around Thor, his sister and other Godly friends, and his human love intrest. In the beginning, Thor is being crowned king at a ceremony, when some creatures from an ice planet, I don't remember their names either, are trying to steal a box. This is no ordinary box, it freezes stuff. Large quantities of stuff. Before they can reach it, Odin, Thor's father, sends Destroyer, a robot like oven monster fighter thing, to take care of them. Thor feels Asgard is threatened, so he bouts with his father about attacking the creatures, which ends up being him and his friends going there anyway. A big fight breaks out, and the only gargantuan monster in the movie is in it. Long story short, Odin is mad, Thor is banished, and he meets his love intrest. This movie is one of those, a-young-hero-coping-with-a-completely-different-environment-like-movies. Also, there is a cleched yet always works, love-intrest-with-no-powers concept. In the actual story of Thor, there is another God, named Temptress, that, when in Midgaurd, or Earthrealm, makes herself appear human, and Thor falls for her. Eventhough they took the world of Thor and put it into a blender, this movie is still worth watching. I give it a 3/5

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!

The trailer for The Walking Dead season 2 is out and it's AWESOME! If you're like me and saw the first season you'll love it. If you're more like me and read the original graphic novel you'll love it even more.
Watch it here: http://www.amctv.com/the-walking-dead/videos/the-walking-dead-season-2-trailer-from-comic-con
I'm probably going to start reviewing the newest episodes when the series starts. The show doesn't directly follow the comic book so I think it's safe to say it's more or less a seperate story. Unfortunately, the trailer doesn't show hints of Tyreese or Michonne (aka zombie slaying samurai) but I guess we're just going to have to wait.

X-Men First Class Review yay yay Spoiler Alert

A few days ago I saw X-Men: First Class. One word: amazing.
The movie could of been my new favorite superhero film, but a few things held it back which I'll get into later. The movie begins, once again, with a Magneto (aka Erik) origin scene. He's in a Nazi concentration camp, his mom's taken away, he gets his powers yada yada yada. This time, however, it is expanded. One of the Nazis who we later learn is Sebastion Shaw takes an interest in Erik's surfacing powers. He kills Erik's mother and it is discovered that Magneto's powers are unlocked by rage. Flashforward a few years and Erik is now a superpowered Nazi hunter and things start getting interesting.
Let me make myself clear. Erik is the main reason I loved this movie. His actor did a terrific job that could probably get an Oscar nomination if superhero movies weren't shafted so much by the Academy. His counterpart, young Xavier, is also excellent. In this movie he is portrayed in a way never seen before, drinking, flirting, and with hair. Erik and Xavier meet eachother and strike up an unlikely friendship (a hippy and a murderer) and so the plot begins. The movie in a nutshell is about Erik and Xavier finding and hthis movie is set in the 1960s or whatever." That being said, I did like most of the mutants they found with the exception of Angel (female not the X-Men 3 Angel). Plot notwithstanding, I didn't like the character much in the first place. Sure, she can fly but the power to spit lava? I've got to admit it sound kind of cool on paper, but in the movie, it was so stupid. My favorite character was Darwin who had the power to adapt to his surrounding (ex. If he stuck his head in a fish tank, he'd grow gills). I felt kind of disappointed when his character was killed off later. All in all the movie is great, but if you know anything about the X-Men, you'll pretty much know the ending. Magneto and X are just too different in ideals so all good things must come to an end. It's like watching the Star Wars prequels, you already know what's about to happen, but you want to watch the movie to see the how.

Random Thoughts: Beast's make up is kind of stupid
Mystique was a character done very well exept...
In the comics, Mystique and Azazel were supposed to mate and create Nightcrawler but nothing in this movie remotely hinted at that

I seriously thought this blog was dead. I was the last to post on it about a month ago, and just stopped so Max could get his fill, but then I just plain forgot. Anyway, I has a Youtube account, so if you want to check it out, go to youtube.com/jtjelani I'll have some videos up sometime after Wednesday, but check out the videos I've liked and favorited. E3

E3 this year was AMAZING! (I didn't actually go but watched the life coverage on G4.)

Microsoft junkies got Halo 4.

http://www.youtube.com/embed/TC2yMKMENdg

Sony junkies got amazing trailers for a slew of new exclusives not to mention amazing trailers for the Vita and Uncharted 3

http://www.youtube.com/embed/aMInoLwQJW4

Both of them got Overstrike, the first multi-platform Insomniac (the guys who made Ratchet and Clank and Resistance) game.

http://www.youtube.com/embed/nPiTienf8iI

That's my personal favorite trailer so far because I love Insomniac, and now Josh can share the love on his Xbox. So what about you? What's your favorite game of the show? (so far)

Last Week of School and Zomb

For some, like myself, this is the last week of school. This Friday is going to be the best day of the year, because I have the free time to be a nerd. One of the things I'll be doing this summer is a thing called Zomb. Zomb was introduced to me on a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gameplay/commentary. The commentator told his audience that he and his college friends hold Zomb (insert correct ammount of time here). Lots of people go and have a blast. Some players are the survivors and most of them are zombies. The survivors must use Nerf guns (don't know how to type a copy rights symbol) to fend off the zombies. They need to survive a set number of rounds, and the last round has a heli-pad or some indicator of rescue the humans need to get to. I've decided to hold my own form of Zomb this summer, so I'm trying to recruit a whole mess of people to join me. I might even ask my partner in crime if he can come over and join us in killing zombies and/or eating brains. So, what do you have planned for summer? Are you going to make your own Zomb?

Twelve Word Review: Gears of War 2

Gore, shotguns, Epic Games, chainsaw bayonetts, epic mounts, bro-mance, Cole Train.

Wanted Review-ish

A few days ago the movie "Wanted" came on FX. I'd heard good things so I decided to kick back and enjoy. I didn't get the chance to watch the whole movie so this is less of a review and more of an"impressions" video. (BTW Josh I'll make the requested post soon)

So basically the main character, Wesley, is a guy with a dead end life until he's recruited into the Fraternity, an assasin organization that dates back to ancient times. Basically, they use a "magical loom" to find their targets. By reading the threads, they can find out who Fate wants them to kill. The death of that one innocent will affect the world in a positive way directly or indirectly. Thus, the motto: Kill one save a thousand. I guess you can save they're kind of anti-heroes because they murder in cold blood, but only for the greater good. Of course, saving the world would be difficult without some sort of power: Curving bullets.
Yup, besides for superhuman strength, speed, foresight, etc., they get the power to curve bullets. This leads to some pretty awesome action scenes and though the story was decent, that is what kept me watching. The amazing last scenes involve exploding rats, a bullet proof garbage truck, and lots and lots of peanut butter and that's just the beginning. (I'm not joking.)

Overall, I liked the movie so I recommend you watch it. Warning: this film is R for violence, cussing, and a bunch of other crap.

Max out.

I apoligize for not labeling my posts. So, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and this post, the 5th, are mine. If I got the numbers wrong, someone tell me.

Twelve Word Review: Resident Evil 5

Chris and Sheva go to Africa. They find Jill and kill Wesker.

Web Comics

I myself am an interweb frequenter and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE Webcomics. I am actually working on one myself called, you guessed it, Nerdify Me. I am also planning one called Demon Master that I may or may not create. In the meantime, to appease your comical demons, here are my favorite Web Comics.

Ratfist
Created by the same guy behind Earthworm Jim, this webcomic shows his amazing ability to create insane yet endearing characters. Updated on weekdays.

Penny Arcade
Far from unknown, Penny Arcade is a hilarious comic about two nerds and their reactions to the on-goings of the video game industry. Updated every two-three days.

Landwalker Nuzlocke (and this)
This is a fan comic based on a fan comic based on Pokemon. I myself am not a big fan of Pokemon, but this goes far beyond that. It's about the relationship between trainer and beast. The premise is that instead of fainting, Pokemon die. A-ma-zing.  Updated whenever the guy feels like it. (The format of these kinds of comics are that they have to have an ending so I also linked the current one he's working on.)

First Post and Music

Hello, my name is Max and welcome to Nerdify Me. This will be a blog of reviews, rants, and random articisms. Please keep arms and feet inside the vehicle and enjoy the ride.

So this is my first post and I've decided I should talk about something that pops up into my life too commonly for it to not be relevant: music. Music can bring joy, serenity, spicy food, all those emotions.(If you get the reference, I love you) but only if done right. Today I'm going to talk about music NOT done right. In fact, it doesn't deserve to be called music. It deserves to be called trash.

I won't point fingers at any artists 'cause that ain't my style, but I'll do my best to identify the key problems with modern music in general and put in my own two cents in the form of suggestions on how to fix them. This'll most likely be an ongoing thing so I can go into depth on every problem.

Numero Uno: Auto-Tune
Sure autotuning can lead to some entertaining viral videos (see: Auto-Tune the News) but those are viral videos with an emphasis on VIRAL. Being popular doesn't neccesarily translate into automatic quality. You can make a popular viral video of cats wearing underwear, and I think music deserves better than that. Basically, Auto-Tuning corrects pitch in vocal and instrumental performances, that, if used too drastically, will distort the human voice adding the tell-tale "electronic" sound. Many use Auto-Tuning because they WANT that sound and that's a-okay (if used creatively) though it can get a little gimmicky. What I'm upset about is using it to guarantee a "pitch perfect" performance, literally. I am not picky in general, but I want real music sung by real people, not robots. If you screw up, suck it up. As cheesy as this may sound, mistakes don't matter if you put heart and soul behind your music. Don't use Auto-Tune, it's that simple! I'll admit that at the beginning I thought it was cool, but now it's overused and overrated, and I'm not the only one. Many prominent figures in the music industry agree. So the lesson of this story is that by respecting the music, you're respecting yourself as an artist.
Peace Out
-Max
